Vietnamese tea export 2021: According to the Agency of Foreign Trade, when the world economies enter the recovery phase thanks to the strong implementation of COVID-19 vaccination along with the agreements: CPTPP, EVFTA, UKFTA, etc. will continue to create favorable conditions for Vietnamese tea products participation in partner markets with preferential tariffs.
The Import and Export Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade) estimates that Vietnam’s tea exports in June 2021 will reach 11,000 tons, worth 20 million USD. It is down 8.7% in volume and 0.2% in value compared to the previous year. The average export price of tea in June 2021 was estimated at $1,818.2 per ton, up 9.2% compared to June 2020.
In the first half of 2021, tea exports are estimated at 58,000 tons, worth $95 million, up 0.1% in volume. It is 5% in value over the same period in 2020.
Continuing the growth momentum in the second half of 2021, Vietnam’s tea exports are forecast to grow positively thanks to improving global demand. As world economies enter a recovery phase, thanks to the strong implementation of COVID-19 vaccination and agreements: CPTPP, EVFTA, UKFTA… continue to create favorable conditions for Vietnam’s tea products to participate in partner markets with preferential tariffs.
“Products made from Vietnam’s tea trees are increasingly diversified and abundant, with guaranteed output and quality, serving the needs of domestic consumers and exports.”, the Import-Export Department emphasized.
Tea export situation to Pakistan
In recent years, Pakistan has always maintained its position as the largest tea import partner of Vietnam. According to statistics of the General Department of Customs, in the first quarter of 2021, Vietnam’s tea exported the most to Pakistan, accounting for 27.7% of the total volume and 32.8% of the total export turnover. Tea export of the whole country reached 7,216 tons, equivalent to 13.57 million USD, the average price was 1,880.5 USD/ton. Overall, in the first 3 months of 2021, the volume of tea exported to Pakistan rebounded after falling in 2020 – up 5.5% in volume and 10.5% in value over the same period in 2020.
In April 2021 alone, tea exports to Pakistan reached 10,342 tons, equivalent to 19.6 million USD, accounting for 28% of the total export volume of tea of the country and accounting for 33.3% of the total turnover, up 12. 4% in volume and 16% in turnover over the same period last year.
The main type of tea exported to Pakistan is black tea, which is also the main export tea of Vietnam with about 80% of the total export volume.
Over the past time, Pakistan has continuously affirmed its position as the largest market for Vietnamese tea, the output of Pakistani tea imported from Vietnam is increasing rapidly year by year. Notably, in the period 2018-2020, Pakistan increased tea imports from Vietnam sharply, with an average growth rate of 18.2%/year. In 2020, Pakistan, along with Taiwan and Russia, are the top 3 countries in terms of importing Vietnamese tea.
Vietnamese tea export situation to India
According to the Import-Export Department of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, in the first 4 months of 2021, tea exports to India reached 804 tons with a turnover of over US$1.01 million, while tea exports to this country in 4 months At the beginning of 2020, it only reached 64 tons with a turnover of 84,000 USD.
In particular, India is both a large consumption market and the main export market, but due to the impact of the COVID-19 epidemic, India’s main tea growing area does not have labor to collect due to the social distancing order. More drought caused tea production in India to drop sharply.
Therefore, India sharply increased tea imports for consumption and re-export. This is an opportunity for Vietnamese tea enterprises to boost production, processing and export.

In addition, tea exports to Iraq, Malaysia, and India increased very strongly in the first 5 months of 2021. In which, exports to the Indian market reached 1,400 tons, worth 1.74 million USD, up 560. 5% in volume and 457.5% in value over the same period in 2020.
Notably, tea exports to the Chinese market increased sharply in the first 5 months of 2021, reaching 4,550 tons, worth USD 6.76 million, up 104.8% in volume and 87.7% over the same period last year of 2020.
