Cashew nut availability has been witnessed year-round as the nuts are harvested in different months of different origins. Besides, the time of cashew harvest is also largely influenced by weather and planting methods. Raw cashew nut availability is more from November to June and the availability is less during July to October. Here are cashew nuts seasons in different countries.

Cashew harvest season in Vietnam

Vietnam is the largest producer and exporter of cashew kernels in the world. Over 65 percent of the world’s export of cashew kernels is accounted for by Vietnam. Cashews nut from Vietnam are consumed in as many as 90 countries all over the world, the major markets being the United States, the United Kingdom, Japan, Netherlands, Australia, Canada, and the Middle East countries. Vietnam’s cashews harvest season usually begins around the end of January or February, ending in May or June depending on the weather and care methods. Cashew nuts are harvested the most in March

There are many different types of cashews grown in Vietnam but most of them are 5 main varieties. These varieties usually produce clusters of 5 to 10 fruits. However, kernel ratio, raw cashew size, and yield are quite different

  • Seed ES-04: kernel ratio: 27.5%; RCN size: 173 nuts/kg; yield: 55-65 kg/plant/year.
  • Seed EK-24: kernel rate: 28%; RCN size: 120 nuts/kg; yield: 35-45 kg/plant/year.
  • Seed BD-01: kernel ratio: 27%; RCN size: 165 nuts/kg; yield: 45-55 kg/plant/year.
  • Seed KP-11: kernel ratio: 27.5%; RCN size: 150 nuts/kg; yield: 45-55 kg/plant/year.
  • Seed KP-12: kernel ratio: 27%; RCN size: 140 nuts/kg; yield: 55-65 kg/plant year.

Currently, Vietnam has about 308.660 hectares of cashew, of which the harvested area is 290,482 hectares, the average yield is 11.9 quintals/ha, the output is 344,836 tons.

Indian Cashews Harvest Season:

  • Beginning of the season: February
  • End of season: June, July.

Tanzania Cashews harvest season begins in October and ends in January, February

Tanzania is an East African country known for its vast wilderness areas. The total planted area with cashew in Tanzania Mainland nuts was 695,683 ha. About 90 percent of the area planted with cashew nuts is found in three regions of Mtwara, Lindi, and Pwani. Mtwara Region (327,281 ha; 47.0 percent) had the largest area planted with cashew nuts, followed by Lindi (207,951 ha. 29.9 percent) and Pwani (91,815 ha; 13.2 percent).
