Export of agricultural products in the first four months of the year in Vietnam reached over 7.4 billion USD

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, in April 2022, the export turnover of agriculture, forestry, and fishery products was estimated at over US$4.8 billion, up 11.2% compared to April 2021, down 2.6% compared to April 2022. Specifically, coffee export value reached nearly 1.7 billion USD (up 59.4%). Rubber reached about USD 869 million (up 10.9%). Besides, pepper about 367 million USD (up 29.6% )

Regarding the export market, the US is the largest export market of Vietnamese agricultural products with a turnover of nearly 4.9 billion USD (accounting for 27.3% of the market share). Next, The second place is the Chinese market with an export turnover of over $3.2 billion (accounting for 18.1%) with the export turnover of the rubber group accounting for 22.4% of the proportion of agroforestry exports of seafood.

In third place is the Japanese market with an export value of nearly 1.3 billion USD (accounting for 7.1%) and exporting the largest group of wood products (accounting for 44.0%). The 4th place is the Korean market with an export value of about 822 million USD (accounting for 4.6%) and exporting the largest group of wood products (accounting for 43.9%).

Vietnam exports coffee: Belgium is second-largest market

Belgium is Vietnam’s second-largest coffee export market, accounting for 11.3% of total volume and 10.4% of total value in the first quarter of 2022. Coffee exports to the Belgian market had a strong boom, which had a positive impact on the whole industry.

According to the Import-Export Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade), Vietnam’s coffee exports to Belgium in March 2022 reached 29.2 thousand tons, equivalent to 61.7 million USD, up by 440.7% in volume and 571% in value compared to March 2021.

In the first quarter of this year, Vietnam’s coffee exports to Belgium reached 65.7 thousand tons, equivalent to 135.3 million USD, up 446.8% in volume and 580% in value over the same period last year. 2021.

With the above results, Belgium is currently ranked as the second-largest coffee export market in Vietnam, accounting for 11.3% of the total volume and 10.4% of the total value in the first quarter (in 2021, Belgium is the 7th largest market in terms of volume and 9th in export value of Vietnamese coffee).

Belgium is the largest re-exporter of green coffee in Europe. Moreover, Belgium mainly re-exports to neighboring countries: The Netherlands accounted for 55% of Belgium’s re-exports of green coffee in 2020. Large-scale and specialized Dutch coffee importers often use Belgium to conduct their activities. Besides, other re-export markets of Belgium are France (25%) and Germany (4.1%).

Belgium is also an important center of the coffee trade in Europe. A large portion of the coffee traded in the world arrives at the port of Antwerp. It is used for transshipment purposes. .

Vietnam enjoys 2.53 billion USD of trade surplus in four months

trade surplus of about 1.07 billion USD was recorded in April, pushing the total in the first four months of this year to 2.53 billion USD, the General Statistics Office (GSO) reported on April 29. In the January-April period, the domestic economic sector suffered a trade deficit of 9.2 billion USD, while the foreign-invested sector enjoyed  a surplus of 11.73 billion USD. The export revenue in April reached 33.26 billion USD, down 4.2 percent from the previous month but up 25 percent year on year. The figure hit 122.36 billion USD in the first four months. It is a rise of 16.4 percent over the same period last year.

So far this year, 22 goods groups have seen export revenue exceeding 1 billion USD. It is included five each with a revenue of over 5 billion USD. Exports of fuel and mineral products accounted for 1.3 percent of the total export revenue. In that, contributing from processing sector is 89 percent, and that of the agro-forestry and fisheries sectors, 6.8 percent and 2.9 percent.

According to the GSO, the country’s imports were 32.19 billion USD in April and 119.83 billion USD in four months. In the first four months of this year, the US remained the largest export market of Vietnam with 35.7 billion USD. China was the largest goods supplier with 37.1 billion USD worth of goods.

Trade surplus generated from the EU market was 10.4 billion USD, up 36.1 percent year on year. In order to promote export in the time to come, the Ministry of Industry and Trade reminded exporters to apply measures against risks while trading with foreign businesses. They advise domestic exporters to optimise advantages from 15 free trade agreements that Vietnam has signed to diversify markets./.
