1.China

Official figures from China show total production in 2020 at 2,986,016 tonnes, a much larger amount than expected. China became the world’s third-largest black tea producer in 2019, black tea output in 2020 is 404,265 tons, an annual growth of 32%.

2. India

Exports in the first 4 months of the year were 83 million kg, about 10% lower than in 2019. 5. Bangladesh

Production in the first five months of the year in Bangladesh is 33% lower than in the same period of 2019 following disappointing crops in April and May.

1.Mombasa

Led by Egypt, all major buyers were active in the initial sale with prices remaining stable. Demand is weak next week with 15% unsold tea. Demand was also weak for the first offering of OTD tea (176 tons) at the auction. In the latter sale, although all the major buyers were still active, there was a significant drop in prices even for the tastier teas while the OTD teas (71 tons) did not attract much attention. any attention. Weak demand in the following week resulted in the remaining 18% unsold and significantly lower prices for all teas and an overall average of US$1.67/kg. At the last sale of the month, the best BP1’s and PF1’= attracted good demand but overall prices fell.

2. Colombo

The first sale of the month was a limited one with a total offered quantity of 6 million kg but demand was quite limited except for good teas. This trend continues into the next week as the number of offers is larger. At the next sale, the better teas at all levels attracted good demand while the other teas fell short. With the exception of a limited selection of good quality teas from all three regions, most teas have an easier market the following week and the trend continues into the next sale.

3. Kolkata

Demand was good at the first sale of the month, where good production quality Assams teas were preferred. Overall, prices were lower the following week with some Assams teas holding or dropping in price. There were two auctions held in the second week and demand for both Leaf and Dust teas improved. The drop-in offers for the third week attracted strong demand and the average price increased by 6%. This demand for all teas was maintained at the next sale and prices continued to rise the following week with the average total price rising to $3.52/kg.

4. Kochi

Neither CTC nor OTD tea attracted much interest from buyers in the first week and there were a lot of withdrawals. Good quality CTC B and F fell further next week with demand mainly from CIS countries and the Middle East but the rest of teas found easier buyers. The price level continues to drop at the next sale when demand is selective. There were a lot of buyers exiting with both the Leaf and Dust teas in the next sale, causing the price to drop even further.
