In the first months of 2022, Vietnam’s agricultural sector has achieved many good achievements. Vietnam has brought agricultural products to many countries around the world. The US is the largest importer of Vietnamese products. Especially, Vietnam ranks 5th on the list of tea suppliers to the US. Besides, Vietnam will be in the top 20 largest partners of India in the neat futura.
Export of Vietnam’s agricultural products has positive growth
Although agricultural exports have enjoyed good growth since the beginning of the year, this activity in the coming time will face many difficulties and challenges. Inflation and the conflict situation between Russia and Ukraine are also the reason for many difficulties.
Sea freight rates have not shown signs of cooling down, production costs are still high. These are still challenges that agricultural product exporters will face in 2022.
The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development affirmed that the ministry always closely directs specialized units to focus on solving and handling problems of the market; especially the Chinese and American markets.
Particularly for the Chinese market with the “Zero Covid” policy, there are still shipments of Vietnamese enterprises that are warned about Covid-19. Therefore, businesses need to pay special attention to packaging, loading goods onto containers… to ensure epidemic control.
In 2022, the agricultural sector nationwide sets a growth target of 2.8 – 2.9%; production value increased by 2.9 – 3%. In addition, total export turnover reached about 49 billion USD.
Currently, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development is coordinating with the Ministry of Industry and Trade in assessing the situation in a timely manner. They jointly find solutions to stabilize production and supply for the domestic market. Especially they focus on exchanging and negotiating with other countries to bring Vietnamese agricultural products into these markets.
In addition, the two ministries also stepped up support for businesses to both exploit traditional markets and access new markets. Along with that, promptly remove difficulties and bottlenecks in exporting agricultural products.
The United States is the country that Vietnam exports the most agricultural products
In the first two months of 2022, the total export and import turnover of agricultural products were nearly US$14.2 billion; up 15.8% over the same period last year. In which, exports were estimated at US$ 8.0 billion, up 20.9% over the same period last year; imports were estimated at over 6.2 billion USD, up 10.0%; trade surplus was nearly 1.8 billion USD, up 86.7% over the same period last year.
Export of main agricultural products is over 3.2 billion USD, up 10.2%. Livestock products reached 54.1 million USD, down 3.5%; seafood reached nearly 1.5 billion USD, up 47.2%. Main forest products reached nearly 2.9 billion USD, up 17.0%.
Some products with increased export value include: Coffee up 35.6%; rubber by 6.6%; rice increased by 22.3%; pepper by 43.8%; milk and dairy products by 11.1%; pangasius increased 83.3%; shrimp increased by 34.3%; wood and wood products increased by 15.5%, …
Regarding the export market, the United States holds the leading position with a value of over 2.3 billion USD (accounting for 28.2% of the market share), of which the export turnover of wood. Especially, Wood products accounted for 69.9% share of Vietnam’s agricultural, forestry, and fishery export turnover in this market.
Next, China ranked second with nearly 1.3 billion USD (accounting for 16.2% of the market share). Especially, Rubber group accounted for 33.3% of the export turnover.
The third is the Japanese market with an export value of nearly 586 million USD (accounting for 7.3% of the market share). This market is the largest group of wood products, accounting for 44.8% of the export value of agro-forestry-fishery products.
Vietnam’s agricultural exporting: Vietnam is the 5th largest tea supplier to the US
The Ministry of Industry and Trade saying that the US tea imports in January 2022 reached 8.65 thousand tons, worth 40 thousand tons. The average price of imported tea into the US in January 2022 reached 4,688.7 USD/ton, up 11.3%.
Vietnam is the fifth largest tea supplier to the United States. The volume and value of imports from Vietnam both increased in January 2022. The import price of tea from Vietnam was at $1,668.6 per ton, up 22 .5% compared to January 2021. The share of tea imports from Vietnam in total increased by 0.5 percentage points.
Black tea and green tea are the two main types of tea imported by the US in January 2022. The volume and value of black tea imports from Vietnam both increased, the proportion of black tea imports from Vietnam increased by 0.9 percentage points compared to January 2021.
In January 2022, the United States imported 1.4 thousand tons of green tea, worth 17.86 million USD, down 0.4% in volume. The average price of imported green tea reached 12,677.7 USD/ton, up 27.7% compared to January 2021. Vietnam is the fourth-largest supplier of green tea to the United States. The proportion of green tea imports from Vietnam decreased by 1.5 percentage points compared to January 2021. Vietnam’s agricultural products have more and more opportunities to grow in the US.
Vietnam will be in the top 20 largest partners of India
In the 10 months of the fiscal year 2021-2022, Vietnam is 23rd in the list of partner markets of India with a total import-export turnover of 11.3 billion USD. It is expected that by the end of this financial year, the total bilateral trade turnover will reach 13 billion USD. In a short time, Vietnam will be in the top 20 largest partners of India.
India is one of the countries with the highest GDP growth rate in the world. Moreover, India’s population is about 1.4 billion people with a large market capacity, creating many opportunities for businesses in other countries, including Vietnam. Like other countries, the Indian economy was also heavily affected by COVID-19. However, the economy has gradually recovered and regained its growth momentum in 2021-2022.
Emphasizing the potential for cooperation opportunities, Mr. Atul Kumar Saxena said that Vietnam can boost the export of dragon fruit and agricultural products to India. Besides, Vietnam and India also have the potential to expand their business with spices such as cinnamon, anise, pepper, cardamom…
Indian businesses are looking for partners in Vietnam to produce these items. Indian enterprises want to invest in the production of value-added agricultural products in Vietnam to export back to the Indian market.
However, there is no joint venture between enterprises of the two countries. If it is possible to develop joint venture cooperation. It will help transfer high technologies in pharmaceutical production. The trade balance is balanced. After that, Vietnam will be in the top 20 largest partners of India.
